Introduction

Genetic variations are present in the world around us. Students will research a specific genetic variation found in an animal or insect and explain how that variation allows them to survive for longer periods of time in certain environments.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will construct an explanation based on evidence that describes how genetic variations of traits in a population increase some individuals’ probability of surviving and reproducing in a specific environment. (NGSS- MS-LS4-4 Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity)
  • Students will write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content (ELA-Literacy.W.6.2)
